Long before computers made it easy to be a copyright criminal,
The ECC was violating copyright laws the hard way.

DIENSTbar LogoOur final public stop in Europe: Berlin.

Now that our time in Warsaw is over, we've arrived in Berlin to enjoy Silvester and one last chance to share The ECC with the EC.  We'll set up the VidiMasher 3000 and to jam at the DIENSTbar event tomorrow, along with Hilot Lilanth and Semerssuaq.  Not in Berlin?  Listen online!  The event will be broadcast on FM radio and internet from midnight to 2am (that's 3p-5p in California) ending with a blind date, pitting The ECC on a duet with a mystery musical date!

This is your ONLY chance in Berlin to see what an ECC show is like!

DIENSTbar & Salon Bruit e.V. & NK

presenting

The Evolution Control Committee
Based in San Francisco and founded by Mark Gunderson (a.k.a. TradeMark G.) in Columbus, Ohio, in 1986. It typically uses uncleared and illegal samples from various sources as a form of protest against copyright law. They also produces numerous audio experiments, such as the disfiguring of compact discs in live performance, known as "CDestruction", and has produced a few video works as well, ranging from re-edited 50's corporate shorts to a Teddy Ruxpin reciting the works of William S. Burroughs. Other activities include culture jamming. They are one of the pioneers of the mash-up or bootleg, where two or more songs are mixed together into a new track.
The Wheel of Mashupis is their latest booty-shaking incarnation, mashing-up unlikely pop music combinations into dance floor mayhem. It’s mixed up live: The audience spins The Wheel Of Mashup to create new mash-ups, mixed instantly with The ECC's amazing VidiMasher 3000

Hilot Lilanth
Is an installation-artist and musician, living and working in Berlin. He is using circuit-bending-devices and effects for a set from minimal music to an abattoir of electronic improvisation.

Semerssuaq
Are WJ Meatball (Jealousy Party, Sistemi Audiofobici Burp) and JD Zazie (B Unit, Sistemi Audiofobici Burp). The freeform Cut’ n Roll duo was born in Florence at the end of the 90′s at the Soul Limbo Studio based in C.P.A. Fi-Sud. From that improvised, freeform/rock and electronic music scene, they developed their technique manipulating sound using basically dj tools.

From midnight on Salon Bruit e.V. will hold a broadcasting of that event for 2 hours with music, interviews and another "Blind Date"-session.
Via FM 88,4 MHz or 90,7 MHz in Berlin and via internet - live from NK.

Sound of Plaid logoThe Sound Of Plaid episode 2013.01.21:  Listener Requests VI

For tomorrow's episode of The Sound Of Plaid we want to hear from you!  As before, we're doing listener requests with a twist -- two simple rules:

  1. Vague concepts only -- do NOT request specific songs...
  2. ...unless you have a song to fill someone else's request.

Previous requests included Cobblestones, jail shower memories, "Perpetual Pastry", and Schizothemia... what's yours?  Make your request on our Facebook page and tune in tomorrow at noon EST on DFM!

Przetwory (Recycles) 5 event posterPoland may not be the first country you'd imagine to be green (in the recycling sense of the word), but this weekend marks the 5th year of their international Przetwory (Recycles) Festival.  Artists will spend a few days remaking unwanted materials into amazing works of art and design, to be judged by an international jury of fine arts movers & shakers.  Hosted in a giant warehouse in the Praga district of Warsaw, the event will draw an audience of thousands.

The ECC will represent at this Maker-Faire-style event with the VidiMasher 3000, using it to create something more than a DJ set, but short of a full performance.  This is your best chance in Warsaw to see what an ECC show is like!

PRZETWORY/RECYCLES 5

OPENING TIMES
Artists start their work on Thursday and Friday (9th and 10th of December)
RECYCELS 5 exhibition will be open for the public
on Saturday (11th of December) between 3pm-8pm
on Sunday (12th of December) between 12am-7pm

[...] After four-year struggle related to organizing RECYLES event we can easily position ourselves on the radical other end of the rainbow towards mass production. We are promoting totally different approach to the product by supporting D.I.Y. idea and by endorsing unique design solutions.

This year we are willing to go one step further by asking the artists a provocative question: HOW TO SURVIVE?

This year‘s fifth edition of the RECYCLES festival will have an international rank.

Organizers with the support of Culture Institutes from England, Spain, France, Netherlands and Latvia invited to Warsaw artists from all over the Europe, who together with Polish designers will ‘recycle‘ during the festival.  [...]

TradeMark & Frilly

As you probably know The ECC is currently enjoying time abroad living and working in Warsaw, Poland as part of the artists-in-residence program at the Centrum Sztuki Wspólczesnej (aka the Center for Contemporary Art) in Ujazdowski Castle.  And being one of the eleven artists who are currently working here, we are participating in the upcoming open studio exhibition. So if you are located here in Warsaw, we invite you to join us LIVE at the Castle to experience our ECC RadioLab in person. Since this is an open studio, not only will you have the opportunity to observe and chat with the ECC doing a live radio experiment, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet and witness all of the other artists who are working here in a myriad of different mediums from sound to film to dance to live sculpture.

But even if you aren’t able to come to the Castle, you can still experience the open studio live by tuning in to our radio broadcast stream which will air on multiple stations during the entire 3-hour long event. Live event too early for your time zone? Don’t fret because we will be airing highlights and exclusive segments from the show on the next episode of The Sound of Plaid -- tune in as you normally would, or via podcast, or download from The Sound Of Plaid Archives.
