Game Show 4The Columbus Museum of Art's Game Show is back!  And once again, The ECC's TradeMark G. provides a soundtrack to the polyester-clad hosts and the offbeat games.  Each show has entirely new games and characters, and the previous shows have found the Game Show nailing its own style more and more.  This one promises to up the ante!  It also caught the attention of the Columbus Dispatch, who featured it as the lead article for their Weekender section:

Rowdy adults-only affair quite a night at museum
By  Kevin Joy
The Columbus Dispatch Thursday February 16, 2012 10:56 AM

Pop quiz, fun seekers: Name a distinguished local institution that offers interactive games, saucy dialogue, fabulous prizes and plentiful Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Did you guess the Columbus Museum of Art? No?  [...]

A cast of about 20 players — including Starliner and bell-bottom-clad co-host Tod Tabler (also known as Columbus artist Jeff Fernengel) — stages the show. The retro costumes, shimmering backdrop and chintzy music recall the “1970s game-show randiness” that has long been relegated to a land of Technicolor parody...

‘GAME SHOW’

Columbus Museum of Art, 480 E. Broad St. (614-221-6801, columbusmuseum.org

SHOWTIME » 8 p.m. Friday
TICKETS » $10, or $5 for members (recommended for adults and older teenagers because of mild language and mature humor)

Hope you'll come.

ThimbletronOhhhh, it has been a while.

For the Thimbletron, specifically.  We had intended to re-present it at the Inspiration Manifestation show a couple months ago, but... um, we couldn't find it.  Oh c'mon, give us a break -- we've relocated ECC operations back to Ohio from San Francisco, and almost all of the ECC studios is still in boxes until we get the studio rebuilt in another one to two weeks.

ThimbletronAnd frankly, although we've now located the Thimbletron... um... we're not positive it works.  Well, I suppose we've never been completely confident about the safety of thimbletronic radiation at public performances like this, but we always manage to make a show happen irregardless of public safety concerns.

Especially when it's another Frequency Friday from Fuse Factory.  They've been supporters of ECC enough to bring us from San Francisco to Columbus for shows, and now that we're local we're hungry for more.  Check out our company for this Friday's show:

February Frequency Fridays: Evolution Control Committee + Le Scrambled Debutante + Doctah X + Solumenata

Our February Frequency Fridays show features culture jammers/mashup band Evolution Control Committee (CMH), electronica-dub artist Doctah X (CMH), and sonic dadists Le Scrambled Debutante (Louisville, KY).

Date: Friday, February 3 2012. Location: Wild Goose Creative (2491 Summit St. 43202). Admission: $10. Doors open 8pm. Our Frequency Fridays 2011-2012 season is supported by a generous grant from the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

Stay tuned -- coming up, another Columbus Museum Of Art Game Show and other great projects to come.

Inspiration Manifestation flyerBurning Man.  wtf?

We get asked about it a lot, mostly by our non-California peeps. This plucky little festival in the Nevada desert has attracted tens of thousands yearly.  The ECC has performed and/or broadcasted there every year since 2000.  In San Francisco, it's ubiquitous.  Elsewhere on the west coast, merely notorious.  East of the Mississippi, almost unheard of.

What a shame.  The short version: art, music, and freaks combine into one of the best parties in the world.  And in that world everyone is a participant -- no spectators! -- so jump right in and BE the artist, the pirate, the neon bunny rabbit, or whatever you've always wished you could be.  "Radical self-expression", as they like to call it.

But why should a bunch of jaded west coasters get all the fun?  The better move: Steal It!  Take that do-it-now energy away from there and start something yourself, outside of Burning Man.  That's what inspired Gary Xaoui and I (TradeMark G.) to do our Burning Corn event 10 years ago.  And it's what inspired the Kickin' It camp to make this Thursday's INSPIRATION MANIEFESTATION.

Fake fur, blinky things, excess fun -- all staples of Burning Man, and nicely ample in photos of Kickin' It's previous activities.  huzzah!  Makes me look all the more forward to ECC representing with not only The Wheel Of Mashup but also the Thimbletron, our first on-stage with that for years.

Wear a costume!
Get silly!
Bring your own artwork!
HAVE FUN!
