Sound Of Plaid at Lost WeekendThe Sound Of Plaid owes something of a debt to the vinyl slingers of Lost Weekend Records.  For more than a decade Coolbrother Kyle has kept the platters spinning out the door of his low-headroom headquarters and into the appreciative hands of records junkies like us.  We've certainly spent plenty of time in the store already -- so why not bring the show there too?  (Saves us lugging more heavy vinyl back to the studio after all...)

And with the Lost Weekend Records Labor Day Parking Lot Record Swap happening this holiday weekend, it seemed the perfect excuse.  Coolbrother Kyle will be our special guest as we compare and share Columbus-specific absurdities and rareties, plus some of our fave finds we've snatched from Lost Weekend in the past.  So join us in-store Sunday September 1st (tomorrow!) from 2p-4p as we record this week's show at the store and pretend like it's actually Monday.  See you there!

Jeff ChenaultThis week's special guests on The Sound Of Plaid are Charles Wince and Paul Volker, pop art instigators and mainstays of the Columbus Ohio art scene.

Charles Wince has spent the last two or three decades forging a body of work that boosts the lowbrow into high art.  Masterpieces like his Mother Russia Meltdown pack pathological amounts of detail into a painting so dense that you'll notice something new every time.  Conversely, Paul Volker's paintings combine the simplicity of a stand-up comic's one-liner with the obfuscation of a zen koan.

Tune in on August 5th for the live show, or listen to a repeat airing:

Sound Of Plaid logoTime for another one of our awesome-yet-fat-free Listener Request episodes of The Sound Of Plaid!

Once again we invite listeners to make requests for vague concepts only... no specific songs.  But don't worry; the perfect song to match your concept will be chosen -- either by us, or by other listeners.  Wisdom of the crowd, y'know?

Last month we successfully launched our automagical semi-robotic listener request system that coordinates your requests and suggested matches.  So let's turn it back on and have another go!

It's too late for your request -- we've already aired this show, but you can listen to the episode at the archive.

Jeff ChenaultThis week's special guest on The Sound Of Plaid is Jeff Chenault, longtime creator, collaborator, and promoter of music ranging from exotica to experimental to erectronica.

"Erectronica?"  Yes, years ago Greg Fernandez and I collaborated with Jeff as The Weird Love Makers, a combination of electronica, exotica, and erotica (hence, erectronica) that performed live for the better part of a decade.  Jeff has also collaborated with many others including James Towning (Fact 22) and Andy Izold (10-Speed Guillotine), not to mention running his own cassette label Exoteque in the 80's and, more recently, releasing albums of rare exotica music on Dionysus Records.
