Mary Jo Bole - Jeanie Can Do! ATM card

After having a blast the first time with guest host DJ Jeanie Can Do! (aka Mary Jo Bole) and her Scary Mary Kay Show in April, how can we say no to a sequel?  This week we present The Revenge Of The Scary Mary Kay Show on The Sound Of Plaid!  Far from just a show about the cosmetics mogul, the Scary Mary Kay Show will focus on music by women: The Shaggs, Johanna Went, Wanda Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, and Moe Tucker are just a few she played during her previous show.  Listen this week for much more!

Tune in this Thursday (2012.06.13) on The Sound Of Plaid!  We'll be on DFM's chat page during the show.  Many chances to tune in this week, and if you can't make the times below you can hear it at The Sound Of Plaid Archives.

This week's radio guest on The Sound Of Plaid is longtime music pal OTIS FODDER!  In addition to his band The Bran Flakes (which toured with The Evolution Control Committee in 2010) Otis is the musical powerhouse behind such projects as The 365 Days Project, Comfort Stand Recordings, Copyright Violation Squad, and much more.  We'll hear music from all of that plus music that Otis just plain ol' likes, and have some great discussion including exciting news on an official Raymond Scott remix project we're collaborating on!  Otis is a restless guy, not just musically but geographically: he's lived in Seattle, San Francisco, Reno, Toronto, Montreal, and will probably move soon to a city near you.

Tune in this Thursday (2012.05.03) on The Sound Of Plaid!  We'll be on DFM's chat page during the show.  Many chances to tune in this week, and if you can't make the times below you can hear it at The Sound Of Plaid Archives.

Mary Jo Bole

Okay, I admit it -- I, TradeMark G, dominate the playlist of The Sound Of Plaid.  Each week I enjoy stroking my music junkie ego and filling our radio show's odd themes with my own male-centric picks.  Don't like it?  Make your own show!

That's what's happening this week, more or less.  Steppin' up for the ladies is DJ Genie Can Do (aka artist and escaped professor Mary Jo Bole) who proudly presents The Scary Mary Kay Show!  We've been anxiously anticipating this show for a while, and this week it finally comes to The Sound Of Plaid.  Far from just a show about the cosmetics mogul, the Scary Mary Kay Show will focus on music by women... and whatever else Mary Jo comes up with, which is often very, very random.  And awesome.

Tune in this Thursday (2012.04.26) on The Sound Of Plaid!  We'll be on DFM's chat page during the show.  Many chances to tune in this week, and if you can't make the times below you can hear it at The Sound Of Plaid Archives.

The Sound Of Plaid

We need your help for our next episode of The Sound Of Plaid!

Tomorrow's episode (2012.04.12) is Listener Requests IV, where we'll play only your requested music.  Our Listener Request shows are proving to be the most creative and fun show, both for us and you.  But how would a request show be "creative" for us?  Because of this simple rule:

The Rule: Do NOT request specific songs.  Vague concepts only.

Sure, it may be International Louie Louie Day, but please don't request the well-known version by The Kingsmen.  We might play a request for a different version (which we get to choose).  But better yet, pay heed to it being Eight Track Tape Day or National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day and request that we play something that connects with those.

Even better: make up your own request.  On previous shows we've selected songs to match requests like snow, Buckyballs, mashed potatoes, IBM, Mexican new wave, turning garbage into gold, frogs, extreme stereo and cross-dressing tyrants.  Stump us!

Request via FacebookThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , hopefully Twitter, and if our playlist isn't already full, during the show on DFM's irc chat.

Tune in THURSDAY (tomorrow/today!) to listen and chat with us for the live show, or listen to a repeat at some time over the next week.  Can't make it?  Subscribe to the podcast, or just pop on over to The Sound Of Plaid archives where you can find over a hundred full episodes of our radio show, ready for you to download or listen to whenever you want.  Free.
