Przetwory (Recycles) 5 event posterPoland may not be the first country you'd imagine to be green (in the recycling sense of the word), but this weekend marks the 5th year of their international Przetwory (Recycles) Festival.  Artists will spend a few days remaking unwanted materials into amazing works of art and design, to be judged by an international jury of fine arts movers & shakers.  Hosted in a giant warehouse in the Praga district of Warsaw, the event will draw an audience of thousands.

The ECC will represent at this Maker-Faire-style event with the VidiMasher 3000, using it to create something more than a DJ set, but short of a full performance.  This is your best chance in Warsaw to see what an ECC show is like!

PRZETWORY/RECYCLES 5

OPENING TIMES
Artists start their work on Thursday and Friday (9th and 10th of December)
RECYCELS 5 exhibition will be open for the public
on Saturday (11th of December) between 3pm-8pm
on Sunday (12th of December) between 12am-7pm

[...] After four-year struggle related to organizing RECYLES event we can easily position ourselves on the radical other end of the rainbow towards mass production. We are promoting totally different approach to the product by supporting D.I.Y. idea and by endorsing unique design solutions.

This year we are willing to go one step further by asking the artists a provocative question: HOW TO SURVIVE?

This year‘s fifth edition of the RECYCLES festival will have an international rank.

Organizers with the support of Culture Institutes from England, Spain, France, Netherlands and Latvia invited to Warsaw artists from all over the Europe, who together with Polish designers will ‘recycle‘ during the festival.  [...]

As you probably know The ECC is currently enjoying time abroad living and working in Warsaw, Poland as part of the artists-in-residence program at the Centrum Sztuki Wspólczesnej (aka the Center for Contemporary Art) in Ujazdowski Castle.  And being one of the eleven artists who are currently working here, we are participating in the upcoming open studio exhibition. So if you are located here in Warsaw, we invite you to join us LIVE at the Castle to experience our ECC RadioLab in person. Since this is an open studio, not only will you have the opportunity to observe and chat with the ECC doing a live radio experiment, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet and witness all of the other artists who are working here in a myriad of different mediums from sound to film to dance to live sculpture.

But even if you aren’t able to come to the Castle, you can still experience the open studio live by tuning in to our radio broadcast stream which will air on multiple stations during the entire 3-hour long event. Live event too early for your time zone? Don’t fret because we will be airing highlights and exclusive segments from the show on the next episode of The Sound of Plaid -- tune in as you normally would, or via podcast, or download from The Sound Of Plaid Archives.

EPCOR CENTRE's Soundasaurus Festival presents

Evolution Control Committee: Reels of Steel and guests
Thursday, January 20, 2011 at EPCOR CENTRE's Engineered Air Theatre
Doors open 6:30pm | Show starts 7:30pm

Evolution Control Committee
What happens when you make a movie soundtrack using only soundtrack albums of other movies? The Evolution Control Committee composes a score to the silent horror classic Nosferatu resulting in a fun collage of familiar tunes, DJ’d live. In Reels of Steel a tightly-composed soundtrack is spontaneously created using only vinyl records, pushing the limitations of copyright. Followed by a Q&A with the artists.

Guest:

Ivan Reese
Mary Everest Boole is a narrative performance of stochastic musical cybernetics featuring a unique software program which allows a computer to listen to its environment for sounds and resynthesizes them into musical phrases.

Festival installations by:

Luba Diduch
I saw you drown...in the Sargasso Sea, is an installation piece employing a microphone and sound booth where environmental sounds and vibrations are recorded and remixed with underwater recordings.

Dr. Thomas Lawrence
Three Songs of a Green Eucharist is a soundscape based on spiritual music compositions recorded over three years.

Money Music logoThe ECC is back from our tour with The Bran Flakes -- thanks to all who came out to make some great shows!

But we're not finished yet: tonight we hit the airwaves for an East Bay radio double-header!  Here's the details, gleefully swiped from Otis Fodder's site:

Thursday July 8th — ECC vs BRAN Death Match
7-9pm (Pacific), 10pm-Midnight (Eastern) on KALX 90.7 FM, Berkeley, California
The KALX Death Match 2010 is a one hour music face-off/smack-down featuring the mash-up mayhem of The Evolution Control Committee vs. cut-up confectioners The Bran Flakes, refereed by your Tumble Weed. And you, the listener, decides which of these artists dies. Are you ready to rumble?!

Thursday July 8thOver The Edge
Midnight-3am (Pacific), 3am-6am (Eastern), 8am-11am (GMT) on KPFA 94.1 FM, Berkeley, California
Money Music – Mixing and creating music all about money with Don Joyce of Negativland, Otis Fodder of The Bran Flakes, TradeMark G. from The Evolution Control Committee, Wobbly (Jon Leidecker) and Phineas Narco of The National Cynical Network. The show starts at Midnight, the night of July 8th, 2010; which is technically July 9th 12am (PST). Running time is 3 hours.
Visit the facebook event page.

The KALX Death Match is a great concept; can't wait to see how it plays out for us.  And of course Over The Edge is the legendary long-running radio show of Negativland and this collaboration should make for a great episode.  Tune in!
