Raymond Scott Rewired album cover

What would happen if mashup masters The Bran Flakes, The Evolution Control Committee, and Go Home Productions were set loose in Raymond Scott's audio archives, with with a blank check to sample anything and everything -- from his 1930's cartoon jazz to his 1960's electronic experiments?

The answer is Raymond Scott Rewired, an album of remixes and mashups of everything Raymond, produced by Irwin Chusid, handler of the Raymond Scott estate and WFMU legend.  Bran Flakes, ECC, and GHP contribute 6 songs each and the three jointly collaborated to create their cover of the infamous Powerhouse, the album's finale.  The album's release date is September 2013 February 18, 2014 on the Basta label, but you can preview three tracks on SoundCloud right now.

From The Raymond Scott Archives blog:

They were given hundreds of recordings owned by the Scott estate, in all genres, including unreleased material, spanning the mid-1930s to the mid-1980s. Jazz, orchestral, electronic, experimental, studio chatter, one-of-a-kind rarities.

These gents were invited to have fun, keep it rhythmic, and make it percolate. Each contributed six audio montages with new titles, and they collaborated on Scott's signature tune, "Powerhouse."

The project is titled RAYMOND SCOTT REWIRED.

It's finished. Mixed, mastered, designed, packaged, and manufactured. You can preview three tracks on Soundcloud. Official release date is September 10, Scott's birthday. (correction: album released February 18, 2014)

James Davis and TradeMark GOn this week's episode of The Sound Of Plaid we're joined once again by special guest JAMES DAVIS, author of the blog Local Autonomy.  Local Autonomy has aggressively and admirably documented the local electronic music scene, current and historical, through numerous interviews and music reviews.  His first appearance last November was such a blast that we just had to have him back for more of his discoveries and knowledge and just plain good jams.  Prepare yourself for a great tour of our local scene with all the best tunes James can fill two hours with!

P.S.: Just did the episode; what great discussions!!  We couldn't stop talking... too many great topics to discuss at length, from obscure recording formats to the physicality of music.  Lots of great 'n' heady discussions in this episode!
