Happy birthday, noise! Today on The Sound Of Plaid we celebrate the 100th birthday of Luigi Russolo's Art Of Noises manifesto, written March 11th 1913. An Italian futurist, Russolo's influential text plays a pivotal role in modern music theory and predicted our current world of mashups and sampling one century ago. During this show we hear some of his intonarumori boxes as well as the 80's band Art Of Noise, who obviously owes their existence to the manifesto both in name and style.

Our guest Tristan Shone, better known as AUTHOR & PUNISHER, is a purveyer of a peculiar brand of industrial doom 'n' gloom metal through power electronics. It's his machines that caught our attention: first his line of drone machines followed by the more recent dub machines, all shiny machined metal that hides controllerist guts used to trigger years of distorted square waves. They've got a visceral beauty that's more at home on the assembly line than the stage.
