The Sound Of Plaid episode 2014.03.17: St. Patrick McGoohan's Day
Forget St. Patrick's Day, we're celebrating St. Patrick McGoohan's Day! The author of the cult TV series The Prisoner, Patrick "Number 6" McGoohan took a stand against conformity in this surreal allegory of a nameless spy kidnapped to a resort prison island. Today we hear music from the series plus music inspired by it, with ample discussion of the show's meaning and impact on today's culture.
Who is No. 1?
You are No. 6.
I am not a number...
I am a FREE MAN!

Sound Of Plaid Archive: Special Guests IRWIN CHUSID and OTIS FODDER
Monday, 24 February 2014 12:43
ALBUM RELEASE SPECIAL!
The Sound Of Plaid episode 2014.02.24: Special Guests IRWIN CHUSID and OTIS FODDER
This episode's very special guests are Otis Fodder (Bran Flakes) and Irwin Chusid (WFMU; Raymond Scott Archives) skyping in remotely to celebrate the album release of RAYMOND SCOTT REWIRED!
Three mixologists who work under group names — The Bran Flakes, The Evolution Control Committee, and Go Home Productions — were given hundreds of recordings owned by the Raymond Scott estate, spanning the 1930s to the 1980s: jazz, orchestral, electronic, experimental, studio chatter, never-heard rarities. Each chemist contributed six audio montages with new titles, and they collaborated on Scott’s signature tune “Powerhouse.”
The project, RAYMOND SCOTT REWIRED, was produced by Scott historian/archivist Irwin Chusid. Official release date is February 18 on Basta.
This collaborative mashup/remix album features 6 tracks each from The Bran Flakes, The Evolution Control Committee, and Go Home Productions created using only samples of Raymond Scott's music, from his early cartoon jazz days to his later electronic years. On this show the makers discuss the album and we hear many of the album's 19 tracks including the joint collaboration finale of the album, Raymond Scott's classic Powerhouse.
