Beatlerape live @ Big City Orchestra 30th Anniversary Show

On January 31st, 2010 Big City Orchestra celebrated their 30th anniversary as a sound-emitting entity, collecting 27 performers to show off BCO's wide-ranging tastes (and their prowess for suckering others to do their show for them).  Three such suckers joined forces to reinterpret BCO's 1994 Staalplaat album, Beatlerape: Wobbly, Phineas Narco, and The Evolution Control Committee.

The trio mapped out a pretty stunning 20 minute set, mixing and mashing Beatles recordings into remixed wonders bearing no resemblence to the original album.  Nope, none at all.  Good thing too, 'cuz this live session might well be better than its original namesake.

As the grand finale, TradeMark G. channeled Ringo Starr to lip-sync "What Would You Think If I Sang Autotune?", a track from The ECC's upcoming album All Rights Reserved.  Ever seen someone lip-sync off-key?  Watch TradeMark do just that:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ART!  In honor of Art's Birthday we get artsy with Harry Partch, Harry Bertoia, Luigi Russolo, Kurt Schwitters, Fast Forward, and other Dada and Futurist rarities.  Just to balance out the high-brow, we stoop to new lows with prank calls to the Tube Bar (which inspired the Simpsons gags of Bart prank calling Moe's) and the recordings of Raymond & Peter.

A little behind in posting these archives so here's MP3 x 3 in one go:

2009.12.29: PARTY.  To prep everyone for the upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations, we play party music of various stripes: Fight For Your Right To Party, Party For Your Right To Fight, Stringfinger, Mike Ladd, plus mashups from The ECC's Ritalin Ruckus.  We also celebrate the 10th birthday of Party Like It's Only $19.99, an ECC-curated compilation album released at the very end of 1999.  Listen below or download for later:

2010.01.05: TIKI.  This was the day before TradeMark and Frilly would appear on a tiki-themed UbRadio Salon, so we figured we'd warm up with some classic tiki music like Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, new exotica from the Two Zombies Later compilation, and even dig out some early silly hiphop with Son Of Bazerk and MC 900 Foot Jesus.  Listen below or download your own:

2010.01.12: BACHELOR.  Frilly was under the weather, so TradeMark makes The Sound Of Dude: various cuts he likes a lot more than Frilly does: Shizuo, Kreamy 'Lectric Santa, Pac-Man picture disc LP, Cabaret Voltaire, Sun Ra, Myron Fagan's rant about The Illuminati, and Severed Heads.  Download it or listen below:
