Inspiration Manifestation flyerBurning Man.  wtf?

We get asked about it a lot, mostly by our non-California peeps. This plucky little festival in the Nevada desert has attracted tens of thousands yearly.  The ECC has performed and/or broadcasted there every year since 2000.  In San Francisco, it's ubiquitous.  Elsewhere on the west coast, merely notorious.  East of the Mississippi, almost unheard of.

What a shame.  The short version: art, music, and freaks combine into one of the best parties in the world.  And in that world everyone is a participant -- no spectators! -- so jump right in and BE the artist, the pirate, the neon bunny rabbit, or whatever you've always wished you could be.  "Radical self-expression", as they like to call it.

But why should a bunch of jaded west coasters get all the fun?  The better move: Steal It!  Take that do-it-now energy away from there and start something yourself, outside of Burning Man.  That's what inspired Gary Xaoui and I (TradeMark G.) to do our Burning Corn event 10 years ago.  And it's what inspired the Kickin' It camp to make this Thursday's INSPIRATION MANIEFESTATION.

Fake fur, blinky things, excess fun -- all staples of Burning Man, and nicely ample in photos of Kickin' It's previous activities.  huzzah!  Makes me look all the more forward to ECC representing with not only The Wheel Of Mashup but also the Thimbletron, our first on-stage with that for years.

Wear a costume!
Get silly!
Bring your own artwork!
HAVE FUN!

After DJing the Game Show 2 event at the Columbus Museum of Art I just couldn't say no to DJing the next one.  Here it comes: This Friday the CMA presents Game Show 3!  The Game Show is all about encouraging the audience's creativity, and while that may make you roll your eyes like it'll be some forced teaching assignment, one worldy friend who saw the last one said she "knew that's what it would be about, but was surprised that it was actually awesome!"

The ECC's TradeMark G. provides a live soundtrack as members from the audience create bugs, rhymes, rock stars, yeti-proof shelters, and a meal fit for a ghost panda.

Ingenuity FestivalWe've finally firmed up The ECC's participation in this year's Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland!  Now that we're local to Ohio once again we didn't want to miss this nearby celebration of Ohio's impressive art & technology scene which booked us in previous years.  From Ingenuity's event page:

Since 1986, The Evolution Control Committee has steadily built a worldwide reputation as one of the most influential and leading mash-up bands by assembling samples and sounds into cut-and-paste masterpieces. Relocating back to Ohio after 8 years in San Francisco, The ECC hits the stage to "Rock Globally; Sample Locally" with tracks from their recent album All Rights Reserved remixed from many Ohio-sampled sound sources.  From Toledo preachers to Cincinnati wanna-be promoters, their world-class music is mashed up live on custom-made electronics including The ECC's incredible VidiMasher 3000.

Time: Friday September 16, 2011 5:15pm - 6:15pm
Venue: Ingenuity Stage West End of Bridge
Type: MusicInteractive performance

Hope to see our Cleveland fans tomorrow!
