The Ingenuity Festival Cleveland returns... and so will The ECC.

The Evolution Control Committee had a great time performing last year at Ingenuity Festival 2008, so when their call for artists came out for 2009's event it was a no-brainer to apply.  Guess they liked us too -- we're in!

This coming weekend The ECC brings The Wheel Of Mashup and our amazing new VidiMasher 3000 to Cleveland Ohio to do FOUR great shows for the 2009 Ingenuity Festival Cleveland.  After appearing in the festival's Preview Party on Thursday July 9th, The ECC hits the street to perform on the All Go Signs alley stage.  We'll do a fresh show for every day of the festival:

7:30-8 pm  •  Friday, July 10, 2009
10-10:30 pm  •  Saturday, July 11, 2009
5-5:30 pm  •  Sunday, July 12, 2009

Every show will be different with new mashups being created as audience members spin the Wheel Of Mashup.  But the rest of the music changes too: one of the great things about our new VidiMasher 3000 is that it makes improvised mashup music possible, cutting and pasting on the fly -- anything can happen!

Last year's festival was one of our highlights of the year.  Join us this weekend and see why!

WHAT: Ingenuity Festival Cleveland
WHEN: One show each day, 9-12 July 2009 (see times above)
WHERE:
Playhouse Square/Star Plaza, downtown Cleveland Ohio (map)
TICKETS: From $10 / Order tickets online

Concert and Performance Dates

Saturday, 13 June 2009 18:32

As June breaks and the beginning of summer proper approaches --  and yet only 11 days from now The ECC will fly south for the winter.  Are we overly eager?  Perhaps slow travelers?  Neither -- because where we're going, it's winter right now.

The Evolution Control Committee goes Down Under: AUSTRALIA

First Stop: Sydney and the Liquid Architecture Festival!  To mark it's 10th year, organizer Shannon O'Neill wanted to do something special, and we're quite gratified that he remembered The Evolution Control Committee from our 2001 shows and thought we would be that special thing.  And The ECC will not disappoint -- we'll bring nothing short of the full Wheel Of Mashup show including VidiMasher 3000 to the Sydney stage, the first time this ECC show has crossed the equator as well as the international date line.  This is our only Sydney/NSW show, so DON'T MISS IT!

WHAT: Liquid Architecture Festival - 10th Anniversary
WHEN: 24-27 June 2009 / ECC on Saturday, June 27th
WHERE:
Hermann's Bar, Cnr City Rd & Butlin Ave, Sydney NSW
TICKETS: http://www.liquidarchitecture.org.au/festival09/tickets/72-tickets

Second Stop: Cairns and the On Edge Festival!  Halfway to Liquid Architecture's goal, On Edge Contemporary Media + Performance Festival enjoys its 5th year of performance, sound, screen, new media and installation from nationally and internationally acclaimed artists.  ECC will kick off the whole thing, performing for the festival opening Friday July 3rd at Mofo Gallery.  And only $7!  On Edge is our ONLY Cairns/Queensland show, so DON'T MISS IT!

WHAT: On Edge Festival
WHEN: 3-12 July 2009 / ECC at festival opening on Friday, July 3rd
WHERE:
Mofo Gallery, McLeod St, Cairns QLD
TICKETS: $7 / 5 door

SubZERO Festival 2009After such a lovely trip south to San Mateo for the Maker Faire last weekend, how can we not sample what other treasures the south bay holds?

Set sail for SubZERO!

San Jose's SoFA district will host the SubZERO Festival, a "diy, artistically bent, hi/lo-techno-mashup" (ECC will handle the "hi" part, thank you).  Over 100 artists will represent, including Author&Punisher (which we posted a video of) with whom we'll share the William Street stage.  You are cordially invited to spin the booty-shaking Wheel Of Mashup and witness the head-turning VidiMasher 3000 for the first time in San Jose!  And if all the attention we got at Maker Faire and elsewhere is any indication, it'll be the just the thing for The ECC to make a good first impression.

There's plenty more representing -- even other Wii-hacking artists like us -- so check the Street Guide and make a night of it!

WHAT: SubZERO Festival
WHEN: Friday, June 5, 2009 / ECC @ 8pm-9:30pm
WHERE:
SoFA district in downtown San Jose, CA
HOW MUCH:   FREE!

Maker FaireT'is the season to be geeky
Fa-la
-la-la-laaa la D I Y...

Yes it's that time of year again... spring is in the air... probably fired from some crazy spring-shooting canon.  And that kind of thing would perfectly embody the aesthetic of Make Magazine's Maker Faire, a juggernaut of an annual event blazing a path somewhere between Burning Man and a really, really cool science fair.  And this year the attendance will likely exceed both -- even Burning Man has never cracked 50,000, and Maker Faire is expecting 65,000+.

65,000+ geeks.

Geeks, nerds, mad scientists -- when you're one of them (and I am) those words are compliments.  Make Magazine has unified that whole motley DIY crew under the flag of "makers", and the Maker Faire is your chance to watch them emerge from basements everywhere with new inventions, and in spite of the duct tape and zip ties holding it together, one of them might completely revolutionize the world of energy... or computing... or music, or light, or textiles, or... getting the point?  The Faire is packed with a huge variety of the greatest, weirdest tinkerings from every hue of the smarty-pants spectrum.

And The ECC has been part of it from the beginning, the literal poster boy showing off our Thimbletron to thousands.  Now we get the pleasure of debuting our VidiMasher 3000 before the geekerati, and if our fantastically fun shows from this year are any indication, this should be a show that should NOT be missed!

WHAT: The ECC's Wheel Of Mashup & VidiMasher 3000 at Make Magazine's Maker Faire
WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, 30 & 31 May 2009 / ECC: 7pm Saturday on the West Stage
WHERE: San Mateo County Expo Center (i.e., Fairgrounds)
HOW MUCH: Day pass $25 / student etc. discounts available
